Further consultation is to be carried out between the Inland Revenue and charities into 'Gift Aid', a scheme allowing taxpayers to pay charities directly through their tax forms.

The chancellor today added the Gift Aid scheme would involve tax breaks for those taxpayers who made donations using this method.
'This challenge of giving must be met by government on behalf of the people. But people too, encouraged by government, should be empowered to give more of themselves,' Brown said.
