Haslers has been a growing firm for quite a while now - one of the reasons we
profiled senior partner Stanley Baskin this month

And if you check out its website you'll see that the firm is a member of two
accounting 'networks' - IAPA and the UK 200 Group.
But Baskin doesn't focus on how his firm works in those structures, instead
he describes how Haslers provides a good, targeted, service to clients. Baskin,
and the firm, seem comfortable with their current networking arrangement.
There are many firms out there like Haslers, and indeed many more who have
not taken the networking plunge. For both there are risks in their different
approaches. By not joining a network you could lose clients that require a firm
to meet their needs as they expand. You also miss the opportunity to increase
your knowledge base and expertise through communication with your peers.
As for network members, increasingly onerous rules, and the risk of liability
for another member firm's actions, means that the structure of the so-called
'network' must be carefully considered. Turn to page 30 to swot up on the future
of accounting networks, and consider whether you can serve an increasingly
global market without some networking muscle behind you.
