RSS feedsThe Ministry of Defence has awarded the Paradigm consortium a £2bn contract to run Skynet 5 communications system, a deal that is expected to create or sustain 1,500 jobs across the UK, including 500 positions at Cogent DSN in Newport. Paradigm is controlled by BAE Systems and European defence and aerospace consortium EADS, and other contributors include Logica, Motorola, Nortel Networks and Cable & Wireless. The contract, which is expected to run for at least 15 years, is the MoD's biggest PFI deal to date but should save the department over £500m.
Capita/Transport for London
Capita has been awarded a contract worth £230m to administer the "congestion charging scheme" for Transport for London. The five-year deal also has a potential two-year extension. Capita will deliver and manage customer service infrastructure, including multi-contact customer service centres, which will enable payment through telephone, web and IVR. The scheme is due to come into operation in February 2003.
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young/DARA
Cap Gemini Ernst & Young has won a £19m, three-year IT outsourcing contract from the Defence Aviation Repair Agency. The deal covers the whole of the organisation's IT infrastructure and applications management, while there will also be help-desk support from 5,000 staff across England, Scotland and Wales. DARA awarded a contract to CGE&Y last August for the redesign and implementation of new ERP systems.
Point Information Systems/Southampton City Council
CRM solutions provider Point Information Systems has won a contract to supply Southampton City Council with e-point, which enables citizens to contact the council's housing department via the Internet regarding property repairs. They can then track the progress of the repair using a smartcard system that connects to service kiosks.
Accenture/UK Police Information Technology Organisation
The UK Police Information Technology Organisation has placed an order for a pilot e-procurement system to be delivered by Accenture in the next two months. The scheme will link 50 PITO staff to at least 28 suppliers, and should see an efficient system that also enables PITO to collect more data regarding its buying behaviour. The pilot system uses software from US-based company Epylon, and Ariba.
Networld UK/Centennial Discovery/London Borough of Merton
The London Borough of Merton has chosen Centennial Discovery inventory-tracking software supplied by Networld UK. The solution keeps tabs on the 2000 software licences that the Borough currently uses, and checks usage and whether new licences are required. The tracking system was implemented before Microsoft-appointed agents undertook a licence inspection.
Sx3/Portsmouth City Council
Sx3 has won a £1.3m contract to implement an integrated housing management system for Portsmouth City Council. The iWorld suite of modules will be available on the Internet for Borough residents, including First Revenues for Council Tax, First Benefits and First Repairs.
ITNET/Braintree District Council
ITNET has won a £10m, nine-year contract to supply Braintree District Council with ICT services and has been chosen as the Council's e-government partner. Under the contract a local business centre will be created which will use staff from both Braintree and Colchester Borough Councils to deliver ICT services to both organisations.
Midland Software/University of Bath
Midland Software has won a five-year contract to implement its integrated HR and payroll management system, Trent, at the University of Bath.
vielife/National Health Service
vielife has won a contract to supply the NHS with a health and well-being online service. The first phase of the deal will see vielife place the service on the NHS intranet for 5,000 NHS employees, and follows a successful pilot with 500 staff.
SquareSum/Occupational Pension Regulatory Authority
Opra has ordered Dream financial accounting software from SquareSum, in a £150,000 contract, as part of Opra's IT development programme to meet the 2005 e-government deadline. The first implementation phase sees the accounting software integrated with Opra's current system.
