The PDA is growing in popularity although the mobile phone remains the most dominant device to access company services, according to research from Datamonitor and PeopleSoft.

The study of 200 companies across Europe into m-commerce trends shows the PDA rivals the portable PC in usage for the manufacturing and retail industries. And the service industry places great importance on mobile phones and PDAs, as employees and customers tend to be on the move.
In the UK and Netherlands the greater functionality of the PDA is enabling it to gain ground on the mobile phone, while Germany and Sweden both show an increasing usage of PDAs as an m-commerce device.
However, respondents still view speech recognition systems that support enterprise applications sceptically, due to the technology's current inflexibility and unreliability.
