Seagate has performed a u-turn over its relationship with Ingram Micro and reinstated the distributor back into its fold, despite canning it 15 months ago.
In July 1998, Ingram was given its marching orders by storage vendor Seagate only six months after it was appointed as an authorised distributor. At the time, the distributor was accused of poor sales and a lack of value added services, which led to the vendor pulling the plug on Ingram.
Ingram was also accused of instigating a price war over Seagate's drives as it insisted on winning the business on price. (see VNU Dealer Net 15 July, 1998)
But in a complete reversal, Ingram was re-appointed by Seagate with the distributor supplying the vendor's products from 28 September.
The re-appointment comes just two weeks after Ingram created a dedicated components business unit.
